Who doesn’t love a good burger? This delicious summer fare is a classic American food that can range from basic comfort food to an upscale meal depending on the choice of ingredients and the setting you eat it in. Burgers come in many options so you can choose whether you want a classic burger, cheeseburger, chicken burger, veggie burger, or a seasonal special dreamed up by the imagination of the restaurant chef. Here in McKinney, Texas, there are some great burger spots, and summer is the perfect time to get out and try some of these local favorites.

Jungle Burger

Jungle Burger McKinney is located on North Central Expressway, just five minutes west of Downtown McKinney by car. They specialize in a large selection of fresh, never frozen beef and chicken burgers to tempt any burger fan. They also have several other food items including gourmet dogs, signature sandwiches, salads, quesadillas, appetizers, kids’ meals, and desserts. Jungle Burger offers combos, iced teas, and soft drinks. They are open on Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

If you like Hawaiian pizza, try the Hawaiian burger with pineapple, bacon, and Swiss cheese. Prefer bacon and blue cheese? They have that too. They also have a vegetable patty cheeseburger with American cheese if you prefer a vegetarian option. Or opt for the classic half-pound hamburger. Their chicken burgers include the chicken tikka burger with tikka sauce, mozzarella, and red onions. Or try the crispy fried chicken burger with all the fixings. For their combos, you can choose from seasoned fries, onion rings, tater tots, curly fries, or sweet potatoes to go with your burger.

One and Only Burgers and Fries

One and Only Burgers and Fries is one burger place you won’t want to miss, since it is a frequent winner of the Best Burger in McKinney award. Ironically, given their name, they have two locations: One is just over a mile north of downtown McKinney, while their second location is in Sherman, Texas. Both restaurants are open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday. Their menu isn’t huge, but apart from burgers they offer a reasonably priced food selection including hot dogs, sandwiches, fries, and shakes, along with beers, wine, and cold drinks.

One and Only’s burgers consist of a hamburger, cheeseburger, bacon burger, and bacon cheeseburger. To any of these, you can add what you want from their list of twenty free toppings. Choose classic toppings like lettuce, tomato, and pickles, or spice it up with roasted green chili or jalapeños. You can add grilled pineapple for a tropical spin, or avocado for a modern flavor. There are several condiments to choose from including hot sauce, BBQ sauce, or the signature sauce. They also have some meatless cheese and vegetable sandwiches for vegetarian diners.

Grind Burger Bar

Part of the Grind Restaurant Group (which has three locations, two of which are in McKinney), Grind Burger Bar is just under 20 minutes from downtown. They offer a variety of delicious food always made from scratch with local and seasonal ingredients when available. Before you get to the burgers, you can start with a cup or bowl of soup with artisan sourdough bread. Other starters include battered and fried jalapeños stuffed with queso and pulled pork, loaded thick-cut cheese fries with bacon bits, and soft pretzels with beer cheese and mustard sauce. They also offer paninis and salads.

Grind Burger Bar features many delicious burgers to entice any burger enthusiast. Try their OG Burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, and American cheese fancy sauce to enjoy a classic done well, or opt for something a little different like The Grind with aged cheddar, onion, marmalade, arugula, and aioli. Their Guac Burger has plenty of guacamole along with bacon, greens, and a whole breaded onion ring to create an impressive stack. Shroom and Swiss is a classy burger with baby spinach, sauteed mushrooms and onion, Swiss cheese, and horseradish aioli. Pair any of these with a side of shoestring, sweet potato, or thick-cut fries.

JC’s Burger House

JC’s Burger House has three locations in Allen, Plano, and McKinney. Their McKinney location lies about 15 minutes west of downtown on the Virginia Parkway. They’ve been serving up fresh burgers for over 20 years and are a local favorite with many fans. You’ll find tempting sides on their menu, like fried pickles, cheese fries, and fresh-cut fries, along with cold drinks, shakes, and teas. Their kids’ meals options include cheeseburger, chicken strips, grilled cheese, and hot dogs. They also offer salads, chicken sandwiches, a BLT sandwich, a turkey burger, and a chipotle black bean veggie burger.

JC’s Burger House knows what makes a good burger, with 1/3-pound fresh patties and a variety of toppings. Their Nooner burger combines the burger with a fried egg, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and aioli sauce. Or try the Juarez burger with grilled onions, avocado, grilled jalapeños, and pepper jack cheese. Or you can build your own burger to get just what you’re craving. Start by selecting what size you want, then choose from toppings such as blue cheese, green chiles, grilled mushrooms, and any of their tasty sauces for the perfect burger just for you.
