Hyundai offers the Sonata Hybrid in four trims, Blue, SEL, and Limited. The Blue trim starts at $27,350 MSRP and provides the most fuel-efficient of all three models. It also comes nicely equipped with a base package of driver-assist systems and a touchscreen display audio system. In addition, Hyundai includes its Bluelink Connected Car system, enabling remote operations and delivering real-time vehicle data using your display audio, cellphone, or home computer.
Sonata Hybrid’s SEL model starts at an MSRP of $30,100 and offers the perfect balance between performance, luxury, and efficiency. SEL has all the same features on the Blue trim, plus a few more. For example, you get the Hyundai digital key, wireless charging, premium 17-inch alloy wheels, and an upgraded Bose audio system.
The top-tier Limited trim’s pricing begins at $35,700 and comes loaded with many high-end features as good or better than other vehicles in its class. For example, limited comes with Hyundai’s entire suite of driver-assist technologies. In addition, it features a revolutionary solar-powered roof that adds two miles of driving range for every six hours of exposure to sunlight.
Sonata Hybrid Blue
Every Hyundai Sonata Hybrid combines sleek lines and sensual curves that give this full-size sedan a coupe-like profile. Other exterior features on the Blue trim include LED headlights and taillights. You also get LED turn-signal indicators mounted on the side-view mirrors. The front grille comes in gloss black, while the side sills come in matte black. Chrome window trim and body-color door handles round out the exterior trim. In addition, a hands-free smart trunk opens with the key fob on your person.
A proximity key gets you inside the Blue’s cabin, where you experience the ergonomic comfort of the six-way adjustable seat. Premium cloth upholstery comes standard in various colors. The 60/40 split-folding rear seat offers multiple cargo configurations. An 8-inch color touchscreen with a high-definition radio comes preloaded with SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth technology.
The 4.2-inch color LCD instrument cluster displays all your vital driving data. Your suite of driver-assist systems includes a rearview monitor with parking guidelines, a forward collision avoidance system with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, and rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, and a driver attention warning system.
In addition, you have a safe-exit assist system that alerts you to approaching vehicles when you attempt to exit on the street side. Hyundai includes a rear occupant alert system that alerts you to check the back seat as you shut off your vehicle.
Sonata Hybrid SEL
This middle-tier model has the same features as the Blue with a few notable upgrades. You get full LED taillights, including LED turn signal indicators, heated side mirrors, gloss black side sill molding, and chrome trim around the body-color door handles.
Inside, you get an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat that heats for comfort. The leather-wrapped steering wheel has all your audio and driver-assist controls, plus paddle shifters for a more thrilling drive. Your audio upgrades to a Bose premium 12-speaker system, and you get wireless charging and the Hyundai Digital Key on the SEL.
Sonata Hybrid Limited
A remote smart-parking-assist system comes standard on this top Sonata Hybrid model, enabling your Limited to automatically parallel or perpendicular park with the push of a button. In addition to the features of the SEL you upgrade to the premium LED headlights and the solar panel roof. This new roof integrates solar panels beneath the glass roof that absorb the sun’s energy and store it in your PHEV’s battery.
Leather upholstery comes standard on the Limited, and your front seats add ventilation to keep you cool during the hot Texas summer. You also get a memory system that recalls your driver’s seat and mirror position settings. The rear seat adds a center armrest with integrated cup holders, and an LED interior ambient lighting system with 64 colors adds sophisticated style.
All your in-vehicle tech runs through the 10.25-inch infotainment system. A larger 12.3-inch LCD information cluster provides additional vehicle information, and the new color head-up display projects selected data to the windshield for less distraction. In addition, Hyundai’s Dynamic Voice Recognition software enables you to run your systems using voice commands. Finally, Hyundai includes a blind-spot view monitor that directly projects a live feed of your blind spots to your infotainment screen.
Powertrain
Every Sonata Hybrid model comes with the same powertrain. A 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine with dual overhead cams and 16 valves with dual variable valve timing and gasoline direct injection technology produces your gas power. The gas engine and electric motor link to a six-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic transmission.
A 39-kW electric motor powered by a 270-watt lithium-ion polymer battery delivers additional horsepower and instantaneous torque. As a result, this powertrain puts out a combined 192 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. Sonata Hybrid owners will love not stopping for gas as frequently due to its efficiency. The Blue gives you 50 MPGe around town, 54 MPGe on the highway, and 52 MPGe combined.
Each Sonata Hybrid uses a capable front-wheel-drive system aided by a column-mounted motor-driven power steering system to deliver impressive traction and control over various conditions.
