McKinney has no shortage of options if you’re looking for ways to fill your free time this spring. This Texas hot spot has a full calendar of events that you can attend to fill your time with engaging hobbies, entertaining social events, and exciting shopping opportunities. 

Some of these ongoing events have experienced cancellations due to COVID-19. Check with the event host in advance for the latest updates on handling these activities. Some may limit the number of attendees, postpone their dates, or offer virtual alternatives depending on the public health status.

Third Sunday Open House

6499 Page St, Frisco, TX

On the third Sunday of each month, from 1 to 4 p.m., the Frisco Heritage Center hosts an open house with activities for all ages. You can enjoy the standard highlights, like the Museum of the American Railroad, and participate in crafts and games that aren’t otherwise available. You’ll find live animals and working blacksmiths that bring the property to life in an engaging new way. The Heritage Center includes the Smith-Muse House, Crozier-Covington-Sickles House, Lebanon Church, a schoolhouse, a log cabin, and more. Docent-guided tours will help you get to know each spot in detail.

Admission to the event is free, and all buildings are open to the public.

Third Monday Trade Days

4550 W University Drive, McKinney, TX

April 16-18 | May 14-16 | June 18-20

Third Monday Trade Days occur on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before the third Monday of each month. Hosted in the Buckner Community’s air-conditioned mall, this event features an extensive selection of antiques, apparel, accessories, and more. Home decor, health and beauty products, garden supplies, and artwork will be displayed. With more than 450 vendors, this is the largest flea market in North Texas and every thrift shopper’s dream. 

McKinney Bridal Show

111 N. Tennessee St, McKinney, TX

Hosted in the McKinney Performing Arts Center, the 2021 McKinney Bridal Show is set to delight brides-to-be. The show will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will feature 45 exhibitors who have demonstrations, samples, and information to help you select everything from your cake and gown to your personal calligrapher. The event will even include a bridal fashion show at noon. Over $1,000 in giveaways will be on hand for lucky participants. 

Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 per person at the door.

Classics on the Square

111 N. Tennessee St, McKinney, TX

The MPAC Center, known as the Old Courthouse in McKinney, hosts the Morning Maniacs’ Classics on the Square Show monthly. The Morning Maniacs is a well-known classic car and truck club in the area. Members gather on the last Saturday of the month (except September and November due to other local happenings) for this regular event.

This car show is for all vehicle enthusiasts, whether you’re interested in cars, trucks, or motorcycles. Both domestic and foreign vehicles arrive for this public event. Admission is free for all gearheads who want to gather for car gazing. Attendees traditionally stop in at one of the local restaurants for breakfast and congregate with other car enthusiasts for a morning of friendly conversation. Classics on the Square lasts from 7:30 to 10:30, so plan on an early Saturday to fully enjoy this event.

Arts in Bloom 2021

April 9-11, 2021

Arts in Bloom is a vibrant celebration of art and wine. The event occurs in McKinney’s historic downtown district, where the tree-lined streets will host 150 juried artists. Peruse the pieces as you explore the Local Artist Village and Student Art Tent hosted by the McKinney Independent School District. If your children feel inspired, the Kids Creation Station will offer a special spot to learn more about art and try their hand at creating one-of-a-kind pieces.

In addition to the art displays, you’ll find live music, performance artists, and dancers to delight the eye. Local wineries and food vendors will entice your taste buds with distinctive creations. 

Second Saturday Bird Walk

1 Nature Place, McKinney, TX

April 10, 2021 | May 8, 2021 | June 12, 2021

The Heard Museum hosts a guided bird walk at 8 a.m. on the second Saturday of every month. Tours leave promptly, so it’s important to arrive on time. These walks last at least 1.5 hours and include additional time for participants to view the local wildlife if desired. They cover woodland, wetland, and prairie bird species. This recurring event aims to help beginning and intermediate bird watchers learn how to spot and identify different species.

The Audubon Society has designated The Heard Sanctuary as an important birding area. Observers have seen 222 bird species here, and 61 species are known to nest in the sanctuary. The 289-acre conservancy is home to an abundance of wood ducks, mallards, double-crested cormorants, great blue herons, snowy egrets, red-shouldered hawks, mourning doves, red-bellied woodpeckers, and more.

Recycled Book Crafting

The McKinney Public Library System regularly hosts book crafting sessions demonstrating creative ways to reuse old books. Ensure every book in your home can enjoy endless life by seeking fun and creative ways to reuse them. These events are currently hosted virtually via a public Zoom meeting.
