2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV: Overview

Hyundai remains as one of the premier car manufacturers and one that often leads the way in efficiency upgrades and other advances, and this year’s lineup is no exception. The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV pairs an attractive design with a comfortable interior and caps it off with a high-range engine with extraordinary power. We’re proud to offer it in Huffines Hyundai McKinney’s new vehicle inventory and believe it will appeal to many people. Here’s what you need to know about this vehicle, including its exterior, interior, and performance factors.

Exterior Style

The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV has a compact style with a hatchback design that rides remarkably well. With a body roughly the size of Hyundai’s Tucson, it also has a fairly broad wheelbase that matches that of the Palisade. This size is surprising for the compact model, though its smooth contours and attractive exterior hide its true size well. The Ioniq’s lines remain subtle yet distinctive, like in previous years.

The Ioniq 5 EV also has a low gravity center, especially for a vehicle of its size and weight. This smart design decision helps keep it tight to the road during tough handling conditions and also provides some surprising handling capabilities. While the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV is not a high-performance racing vehicle, it handles tight corners and awkward driving situations well, even when compared to previous models.

Complete Driving Range

The appealing thing about electrical vehicles is that their capacity continues to grow just about every year. The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV illustrates this well with a 256-mile range paired with an all-wheel drive. It also comes with a 77.4-kilowatt-hour battery pack, which is a competitive option when compared to the other current vehicles in its class. And with more electric charging stations popping up around the country, this car is perfect for the daily commute or long road trips with the family.

However, you can always remove the all-wheel-drive option before buying the Ioniq 5 to get up to 303 miles per battery charge. It’s nice that this option is available and might be especially appealing to those who live in areas without heavy snowfall. Note that cold weather affects the range and is likely to decrease to about 220 miles in winter. However, that range is only a minor drop compared to older electrical vehicles. Charging also remains fairly quick, with a 10% to 80% charging rate of about 18 minutes.

The Engine Specs

The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV provides a surprisingly powerful engine for a vehicle in its class. The all-wheel-drive model has a net horsepower of 320 with 446 lb-ft. of torque from its motors. You can speed up from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 5.2 seconds. You’ll particularly notice the car’s power when initially speeding up and, given its light weight, it picks up speed quickly.

These specifications provide the Ioniq 5 EV with more than enough power for its class, especially for people who plan on using it in mostly fair weather conditions. It’s also important to note that snow and ice may affect this power and decrease the Ioniq 5’s overall strength and control. Thankfully, the slight decrease in power is usually easily compensated by careful handling and taking it a little slower in these more precarious situations.

The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV’s interior cabin is an attractive and appealing place to ride with H-Tex leatherette seating surfaces, front LED accent lighting, a heated steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, easy Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, Bluelink Connected Car help, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel that should feel smooth and comfortable in your hands. You also get a 60/40-split folding rear seat and heated front seats with eight-way power control and Bluetooth hands-free phone syncing that lets you play music or talk to loved ones safely while on the road.

Entertainment and Technology

Vehicle tech has become a popular focus for Hyundai over the years, and many of their vehicles lead the way in this field. The 2022 Ioniq 5 EV is no different, as it comes with many fascinating upgrades well worth considering. First, it comes with two 12.3-inch displays on a single panel that offers multiple control options. One lets you track all your relevant driving information at a glance, including your available miles on the battery and charging times when plugged in. You can easily control this display with the touchscreen or by using the steering wheel controls.

The other screen includes all your infotainment needs, including the latest version of Hyundai’s telemetric system. It also syncs with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with an easy-to-use voice-recognition system. You can also choose from one of five different USB-A ports, as well as a 12-volt outlet that can pull about 16 amps while you drive.

Even better, the Ioniq 5 comes with an augmented-reality heads-up display that shows you turn-by-turn directions as you ride. While Mercedes offers a similar option for their vehicles, Hyundai’s take on this kind of feature is impressive in its way. Other standard tech options you get with this vehicle include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view camera, parking sensors, and a rear occupant alert. These tech upgrades help make the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV one of the stronger and more impressive electrical vehicles on the market today.
